People keep llamas for many different reasons. Some people breed them so that they can sell the young ones. Others keep them for their lovely warm fibre which can be knitted or woven. More and more people keep llamas as pack animals. No, not to carry their shopping home from the supermarket, but to carry their camping equipment or picnic baskets when they go hiking. So, if you like hiking but get fed up of carrying a rucksack — get yourself a llama. Or two llamas so that it doesn't get lonely. For people who go hiking on their own, a llama makes a good companion: llamas love to be talked to. Perhaps the most important reason why people keep llamas and alpacas is that they can't help it. They fall in love with the animals and just have to be near them all the time. |
